Reviews - Beethoven 19 August 2017 (BRO)

"Music can be a blessing to all people. It is a universal language – with many dialects. It is practiced in every culture of the world. It’s partly what defines us as human. It is my privilege to participate in sharing this with others. I have  loved European Art Music all my life."

Coming from a European background and raised on western art music has nurtured within Gyula a love for people and love of sharing music. Conducting over 40 orchestras and 8 choirs during a period of almost 20 years has heightened his love for the sounds of great music, musicians and kindled a passion for excellence. This drives the desire to recognize potential and realize great performances. Skills developed include discerning player placement, molding sound, phrasing, articulation, dynamics and the honing of orchestral tone. With an interest in historically informed performance practice, study of many scores has brought integrity to my preparation. The expertise gained in advanced conducting technique comes from studying with the late Professor John Hopkins OAM OBE, in addition, studying with conductors such Nicholas Braithwaite, Denis Vaughan, Shalom Ronly-Riklis, Carl Crossin and Carlo Felice Cillario.

Conductors should serve the composers, players and the audiences. Inspiring orchestras produce better  performances in ways previously thought impossible - beyond their best.

Advanced experienced as a string player, serving both as concertmaster and section leader has brought with it an advanced understanding of string technique. This has been enhanced by studying violin pedagogy for 18 months with the late Lyndall Hendrickson OAM and Kaj Ingerslev (Denmark); viola studies with Keith Crellin, Glynne Adams, John Gould and Nora Whitehead.

Qualifications:
M.Mus (Conducting), Melbourne University, (on RTS scholarship), studying with an expert in conducting technique - the late Professor John Hopkins OAM OBE

Grad. Dip. Ed (Sec.) (S.A.C.A.E.) – awarded a Postgraduate Scholarship for merit
B.Mus (Perf.) (S.A.C.A.E.), majoring in Viola (Studying Musicianship with Stephen Whittington, Historically Informed Performance with Dr. Warren Bourne)
